I believe many would describe the year 2020 as chaotic. The Covid-19 outbreak has us “living in a state of high alert” that derailed our normal routine and life goals. Additionally, after months of living in lockdown, many find we’ve changed mentally, physically, and emotionally. We no longer feel good about ourselves.
Many experience regret and dissatisfaction. May it be your body shape, your weight, your stamina, etc. You may also reminisce about how it good it felt to be strong prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Do not despair! If you have derailed, now it is time to get back on track.
Fittingly as 2020 ends, let us start planning. Oprah Winfrey once said, “Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.”
Here, we want to share with you how our friends, after finding their lives greatly changed by the Covid-19 pandemic, were able to recover using the simplest form of solution. It is our 2-minute read to help inspire you to get back on track and how it will feel good to be strong again.

I am fanatic when it comes to K-Dramas. I watch one after the other. Crushing on different oppas, envied on the starlets’ strong characters, and falling in love with the story lines.
As I envied the starlets, I try to emulate their strong and lean bodies. This is what motivated me into getting a life transformation regime – I worked out!
During a class reunion dinner, I reacquainted with another K-Drama fanatic named Fara. I did not recognize her at first because she was no longer the shy, plump girl who hid under frumpy clothes. She was full of confidence, fit and energetic. As we lived in the same area and are both fanatics of K-Drama, we started hanging out together.
She keeps teasing me about my dream to look like a K-Drama starlet. She says, “Hana, don’t just dream. Take action.”
Before I knew it, she dragged me to a Bootcamp trial. I felt like a lump of dough and was so unfit that I threw up halfway through. When it finally ended, I vow never to do it again.
Fara wouldn’t take no for an answer. Every weekend she would wait in front of my house to get me to train. She keeps motivating me saying I am looking learner and stronger like my favorite K-Drama star. Most importantly, she says she has the latest gossip about our favorite oppas.
So, week after week, we train together. As I overcame each challenge, my body grew stronger, leaner, and firmer. I could even run up the steps of Batu Caves without stopping for a rest.
Before I knew it, I started receiving compliments on how lean and strong I looked. I have never been happier.
Then the Covid-19 pandemic hits. The Movement Restriction Order and various SOPs disrupted my routine. I started working from home and no longer attending training, gyms, or exercise classes. To fill up time, I started bingeing on K-Drama while snacking continuously. My daily step count drop from 12,000 steps to a mere 1,000 steps.
Ultimately, I gained more than 8kg and was flabby all over. I no longer fit into my old clothes.
When my colleagues contacted me about returning to work in office soon, I became horrified. I was embarrassed to show them all the weights I have gained.
I cried for help and again Fara comes to my rescue. She motivated me to get back active. She simply says, “Get active, girl.”
Her first tip was “K-Drama treadmill marathon”.
She says “Instead of bingeing on the couch. Binge on the treadmill. I tried it and it was fun. As I get absorbed into the plot, I didn’t realize I could run from the start till the end of each episodes.
Her second tip was “Protein for a leaner and stronger body.”
She explained during MCO period, she has increased her protein intake. She made protein her main source of energy replacing carbohydrates to maintain her fitness levels and body shape. Her favorite brand is Nature’s Way Instant Natural Protein because it is high in protein without the additives regularly found most market brands. Those additives will make your body look bulky and muscular and we don’t want that. Instead, Nature’s Way Instant Natural Protein fortifies our diet with quality plant-based protein to promote a leaner, strong and agile body. It also helps to lower unhealthy health markers such as high cholesterol, high blood sugars and high blood pressure.
She explains protein is an important part of every cell in our body. A high protein diet can boost metabolism and gives energy to sustain a long workout. Protein is also needed to repair my muscles after workout and to firm up my flabby body. Protein will also help me feel full longer to prevent cravings between meals that leads to weight gain.
Exercise during K-Drama is not just fun, it is addictive. When its melodrama, I walk. When its thriller, I run. I felt like I am a part of the drama itself.
Next, protein really did transform my body. By taking more protein, it keeps me feel fuller longer and it did make me resist the temptation of snacking. Nature’s Way Instant Natural Protein has the highest percentage of plant protein compared to other plant-based proteins in the market. Each serving contains 74% protein and is equal to 100g of chicken breast, four eggs or 100g of salmon. Yet it is cholesterol-free, and low in sugar, fat, and carbohydrates.
Thanks to the combination of exercise and high protein intake, my body returned to its pre-Covid 19 pandemic form. I am sure my colleagues will not realize how I turned into a flab when we were all working from home.

Tired & Demotivated — by Amy
I am a very social and out-going person. I am 29 years old and have been working hard because I am aiming for a managerial post that will be vacant soon (my colleague is returning overseas). It will be a great achievement to be promoted to a managerial role at my age. My parents would be proud.
But the start of Movement Control Order (MCO) brought by Covid-19 pandemic changed.
Slowing My Time Bomb — by Sofea
As a business consultant in a large corporation, I used to ask my clients what are their priorities in life? The frequently mentioned is accumulating wealth. Rarely good health is mentioned.
But the Covid-19 pandemic have me thinking of how fragile life is. To think a virus which is not considered a living being can destroy life and economies. Though economies around the world have been impacted, I have come to appreciate the saying from Ralph Waldo Emerson, “The first wealth is health.”
Life Transforming Journey for Two – by Linda
One day, I took my mother to the doctor after she complained of indigestion. The doctor who is also a family friend looked at us and immediately ordered us to undergo a medical check-up.
I clearly remember the day when our usually mild-mannered family doctor shows us our medical results. He was furious! We were not only overweight, our readings for cholesterol level, blood sugar level, and blood pressure were dangerously high – classic symptoms of metabolic syndrome (more about metabolic syndrome later).
Uncle Don, from Active To Standstill and his Revival
Rachel lives with her retired father fondly known as Uncle Don. Although retired, Uncle Don leads a busy life. Every morning by 5am, he can be seen at the local playground exercising with his friends. By 6.30am, he would then head to the local pasar pagi for his breakfast. Then, he would bring home my favorite food and ensures I had a good breakfast before heading off to work.
Then the pandemic hit us. All are to stay at home. Uncle Don detests this as he values his independence and mobility and is never known to sit still.
