I believe many would describe the year 2020 as chaotic. The Covid-19 outbreak has us “living in a state of high alert” that derailed our normal routine and life goals. Additionally, after months of living in lockdown, many find we’ve changed mentally, physically, and emotionally. We no longer feel good about ourselves.
Many experience regret and dissatisfaction. May it be your body shape, your weight, your stamina, etc. You may also reminisce about how it good it felt to be strong prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Do not despair! If you have derailed, now it is time to get back on track.
Fittingly as 2020 ends, let us start planning. Oprah Winfrey once said, “Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.”
Here, we want to share with you how our friends, after finding their lives greatly changed by the Covid-19 pandemic, were able to recover using the simplest form of solution. It is our 2-minute read to help inspire you to get back on track and how it will feel good to be strong again.

As a business consultant in a large corporation, I used to ask my clients what are their priorities in life? The frequently mentioned is accumulating wealth. Rarely good health is mentioned.
But the Covid-19 pandemic have me thinking of how fragile life is. To think a virus which is not considered a living being can destroy life and economies. Though economies around the world have been impacted, I have come to appreciate the saying from Ralph Waldo Emerson, “The first wealth is health.”
The virus upon us is like a monstrous cloud that is not going away anytime soon. Our family diligently observe the SOPs and avoiding 3C (crowded place, confined space, and close conservation). Additionally, we boost up our immunity with various supplements.
But why am I so concerned? It started when news began circulating about having metabolic syndrome influences mortality risk. The reason is those with metabolic syndrome have an ongoing low level of inflammation happening in their body. It is this inflammatory condition within the body that leads to severe symptoms if contracted.
Truthfully, prior to this news I have no concern about myself having metabolic syndrome. I felt fine and I am nowhere feeling or looking weaker than other healthy individuals. I always thought it was my nutritionist friend who over exaggerated the seriousness of metabolic syndrome.
As a mother of two young kids, this experience has made me realize the importance of good health. Hence, I decided to give my long-time friend cum nutritionist (the one who keeps nagging me about my metabolic syndrome problem) a call. As usual, I was told to undergo lifestyle changes, exercise, and have nutrition.
Jokingly, I ask “Ada yang senang sikit? (Is there anything that is easier?)”. Rolling her eyes, she says in less than 10 words “Walk 10,000 steps a day and take more protein.”
Bingo! Now these are simple and easy tips.
For the 10,000 steps, she told me to use a step counter on my mobile to track. For the high-protein diet, I was told to use Nature’s Way Instant Natural Protein.
She explains that Malaysian tend to consume a diet high in carbohydrate. This is among the root cause for metabolic syndrome. Instead, increasing dietary protein intake helps to reverse or manage metabolic syndrome (blood pressure, blood sugar and blood lipid profiles).
Armed with these two tips, I started my journey to be free from metabolic syndrome. Both tips are easy and inexpensive. First, walking is free. Second, using Nature’s Way Instant Natural Protein is affordable. The biggest investment would be my commitment.
My commitment comes from my desire to be healthy for my two young kids. I must take care of myself to be with them as they grow up. But having metabolic syndrome is like having a time bomb where I am exposing myself to many health issues such as heart attacks, stroke, kidney disease, diabetes, etc. I am committed to avoid all these.
It has been 100 days since I undertake 10,000 steps daily and adopt a high protein diet. It is not as difficult as I thought it would be. It is easy to achieve every day with a step counter and Nature’s Way Instant Natural Protein.
Initially, I thought high-protein diet is difficult. But it isn’t. With Nature’s Way Instant Natural Protein, I can prepare breakfast that is high in protein and delicious. What I will do is to substitute up to 1/3 of the normal flour asked in any recipe with Nature’s Way Instant Natural Protein. I usually opt for the vanilla variant, but you can try using chocolate variant if you like.
With this technique, I have successfully made pancakes, waffles, and muffins. My kids who are picky eaters did not even notice the difference. Other than that, I will mix the protein powder into my morning coffee or sprinkle onto my overnight oats. All these helped me include more protein into my diet without increase my calorie intake. Nowadays, I felt better and stronger all thanks to the simple and easy tips my friend has given me.

Tired & Demotivated — by Amy
I am a very social and out-going person. I am 29 years old and have been working hard because I am aiming for a managerial post that will be vacant soon (my colleague is returning overseas). It will be a great achievement to be promoted to a managerial role at my age. My parents would be proud.
But the start of Movement Control Order (MCO) brought by Covid-19 pandemic changed.
I am guilty of “Pandemic Weight Gain” — by Hana
I am fanatic when it comes to K-Dramas. I watch one after the other. Crushing on different oppas, envied on the starlets’ strong characters, and falling in love with the story lines.
As I envied the starlets, I try to emulate their strong and lean bodies. This is what motivated me into getting a life transformation regime – I worked out!
Uncle Don, from Active To Standstill and his Revival
Rachel lives with her retired father fondly known as Uncle Don. Although retired, Uncle Don leads a busy life. Every morning by 5am, he can be seen at the local playground exercising with his friends. By 6.30am, he would then head to the local pasar pagi for his breakfast. Then, he would bring home my favorite food and ensures I had a good breakfast before heading off to work.
Then the pandemic hit us. All are to stay at home. Uncle Don detests this as he values his independence and mobility and is never known to sit still.
Life Transforming Journey for Two – by Linda
One day, I took my mother to the doctor after she complained of indigestion. The doctor who is also a family friend looked at us and immediately ordered us to undergo a medical check-up.
I clearly remember the day when our usually mild-mannered family doctor shows us our medical results. He was furious! We were not only overweight, our readings for cholesterol level, blood sugar level, and blood pressure were dangerously high – classic symptoms of metabolic syndrome (more about metabolic syndrome later).
